The reclamation work of the Hulhulé – Hulhumalé link road is ongoing at a fast speed. The dredger ships needed for this work arrived yesterday and the reclamation works were started immediately.
While the reclamation work started yesterday, the work on the bund wall to mark the area needed for reclamation began earlier this month. Additionally, a part of Boashima Hingun has been fenced in order to cater for the highway construction.
Housing Development Corporation’s Managing Director stated that the reclamation work will be completed within next week.
“We believe that by 4th October, we will be able to finish all the reclamation works. Once it is completed, we will be ready to start the shore protection works to safeguard the reclaimed area. Our target is to complete the highway before the bridge is completed”, he said.
Saiman further said that with the increase in population in Hulhumalé, he expects the highway to become an important development that will be frequently used by residents of Malé, Hulhumalé and visitors. “It is the aim of the government to ensure that the citizens can use the highway to enter and exit Hulhumalé without any difficulties”, he added.
This highway will be 4km in length and have four lanes which will be wide enough for all types of vehicles. Constructed as per industry standards, the highway will have electricity, water and sewerage facilities as well.
