His Excellency President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom and First Lady Madam Fathimath Ibrahim officially inaugurated the largest housing initiative in Maldives, last night.
Named as ‘Hiyaa’ the project launching took place at Phase II of Hulhumalé. President Yameen and First Lady was accompanied by Minister of Economic Development Mohamed Saeed, Minister of Housing and Infrastructure Dr Mohamed Muizzu, Housing Development Corporation’s Managing Director Mohamed Saiman, cabinet ministers, members of the parliament, management team of HDC and other senior officials of the government.
The event commenced with Managing Director of Housing Development Corporation Mohamed Saiman’s welcome address, followed by addresses from Minister of Housing and Infrastructure Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and Minister of Economic Development Hon. Mohamed Saeed.
President Yameen and First Lady then officially initiated ‘Hiyaa’ project by laying the foundation for the numerous numbers of housing towers which would be developed in Phase II, followed by fireworks to celebrate the initiation of the project.
Afterwards, President Yameen addressed the audience in which he promised to resolve the housing issues being faced by Maldivian residents. President concluded his address by pledging for sustainable housing solutions in Maldives, promising Hulhumalé Youth City as the “City of Hope”.
Following this, a group of youth individuals representing government and private entities participating in the Hiyaa initiative, expressed their gratitude to President Yameen and their hopes for this project.
Once completed, ‘Hiyaa’ project would have developed several housing units accommodating a population of 80,000 in these units.
