YouFest 2017 held in celebration of Youth Day

The largest youth event ever to be held in Hulhumalé took place from morning until midnight, yesterday.

Branded as YouFest 2017, the event was officially inaugurated by Minister of Economic Development Mohamed Saeed on Friday morning. The registration for activities began at half past five on Friday morning and continued until five in the evening.

The event was organized by Housing Development Corporation while BLAK was the official event manager. The main-partners of the event included Dhiraagu and Yonder Music, and over 20 partners were actively involved in the variety of activities throughout Hulhumalé.

In the aim to create a ‘Theme Park’ concept, around 20 variety of activities were distributed all across the Hulhumalé, including various kid’s events, sea sports activities, obstacle course, Tug-of War and Keymaatu competition.

YouFest 2017 merged their event with Dhiraagu Maldivian Road Race 2017, and National Bike Championship by Bike Maldives. In addition, open day for HDC’s Apprenticeship Program took place during the festivities, from afternoon till evening.

The final activity of YouFest 2017 was a Music Show that included several famous artists of Maldives and international artists, and was carried out all through the night until midnight. A display of fireworks delighted the crowd gathered at the show.

YouFest was carried out in the celebration of National Youth Day, which is originally celebrated on the 17th of November each year. The purpose of this event is to establish a youth-focused vision for the city’s future and to provide an opportunity for people to spend some quality time with their family and friends.

Although the event was carried out on the occasion of Youth Day, YouFest ensured that individuals from all age groups were involved. HDC aims to conduct more such events for the citizens and visitors of Hulhumalé in the future.
