HDC celebrates the successful completion of “HDC Apprenticeship Program 2018”

Housing Development Corporation held the graduation of Apprenticeship Program today in Hulhumalé Fahiveni Community Centre.

The ceremony was attended by the Management and Staff of HDC, as well as management of Maldives Institution of Technology (MIT).

This year, HDC offered Certificate Level III in three trade areas; Building Maintenance, Construction, and Surveying, which is recognized by Maldives Qualification Authority. The programs combined on-the-job training with related and supplemental instruction given by the Maldives Institution of Technology (MIT).

From the 18 students who completed the program, certificates were awarded to 15 apprentices. An additional of 6 existing staff of HDC who completed the program attained the certificate making the total number of graduates as 21.

Out of the 18 apprentices who completed the program, HDC had awarded the offer of employment to a total of 10 graduates. While both land surveying and building construction selected 3 graduates each for their fields, building maintenance had selected 4 graduates to its field.

MIT’s Director Mr. Adam Haleem, in his address highlighted the significance of the Apprenticeship Program. He stated the vital role played by HDC through this program to transform the field of construction within Maldives, by introducing skill development opportunities in essential yet overlooked areas.

This year’s apprenticeship program is the second of its kind to be conducted by HDC. With plans to conduct this program on an annual basis, it is HDC’s aim to develop skilled youth in the society true to our strategic pillar of developing a consonant community and socio-economic equity, through such activities.
