A Half way House has been established in Hulhumalé for the recovering drug addicts. The foundation stone for this establishment was laid by the on 13th July 2011.
The main purpose of such an establishment was to provide a place of residence for the recovering addicts where care and support for them would allow the former addicts to begin the process of reintegration with the society.
During the Ceremony Dr. Waheed highlighted on the Government’s efforts to combat drug abuse and trafficking in the Maldives which includes establishment of Detoxification Centers in Villingili and Addu City, including a Center specifically designed for the female addicts which was opened on June 27th.
Also Dr. Waheed expressed his gratitude towards the Housing Ministry for undertaking the Half-Way House Project which was carried out with the support and assistance from the Italian Charity Organisation, Charitas Italiana. The V.P also expressed hope for better and improved services for the recovering addicts by revealing that a new Rehabilitation Center would be opened in Fuvahmulah in the near future.
Before concluding the ceremony, Dr Waheed also planted a tree at the half-way house construction site.
