The first volume of Receptive City, “Canopy Design Competition” organized by Housing Development Corporation concluded last night with Team Abadhah Fehi as the winner of the competition that was held from 4-6 September.
The closing ceremony took place at MNU campus, where the participants presented their concepts and ideas to a panel of judges from HDC. The prize money of MVR 10,000 was awarded to Abadhah Fehi team by Chief Guest Mr Ali Shareef, HDC’s Director of Finance.
According to team Abadhah Fehi, their project “Alivaru” is inspired by the diverse cultures that inhibit the city, leading to the concept of an undefined structure represented by different shapes combined. The concept which provides shelter from rain, is created in a way that gives the user the a unique and joyful experience through light and shadow.
This volume was held in collaboration with Maldives National University’s Faculty of Engineering Technology. A total of 6 teams took part in this competition, which consisted of 37 students from FET. The winning team’s canopy design will be built and displayed permanently at the Central Park, Leisure Zone.
Last night’s closing was attended by the management members of HDC, Vice Chancellor of MNU Dr Ali Fawaz Shareef, Deputy Vice Chancellor Aishath Shaheen, Deputy Vice Chancellor Dr Muaviyath Mohamed, Dean of Faculty of Engineering Ghaanim Mohamed and members of the Faculty.
With the aim to create more of such platforms for students to exhibit their passion and talent through a learning experience, HDC hopes to continue Receptive City series annually.
