A tree planting event initiated and organized by independent institutions of Maldives, along with several other partners was carried out in Phase II of Hulhumalé this evening.
Under the name “Aaroa” this event was conducted in conjunction with World Environment Day. 1200 trees were planted by 13 independent institutions and other government companies, making this one of the largest such initiatives in Hulhumalé Phase II. Housing Development Corporation is the Host and an Associate Partner of this event.
Speaking at the event, President of Civil Service Commission Dr Ali Shameem said that Aaroa was a movement found by all independent institutions of Maldives to carry out programs that will be beneficial to the Maldivian community.
Managing Director of Housing Development Corporation Mr Mohamed Saiman highlighted HDC’s aim to ensure that Hulhumalé Phase II is a green and clean city. He further stated that under this objective, HDC has carried out 16 greening events in Phase II in collaboration with various organizations in Maldives.
Addressing the guests, Minister of Environment and Energy Thoriq Ibrahim gave an overview of the programs carried out by the government to protect the environment and bring sustainable environment-friendly development in Maldives.
During this event, a pledge was signed by 14 institutions, including HDC, promising to protect the environment.
As the Associate Partner and host of this event, Housing Development Corporation provided the trees planted, as well as the tools for planting and the arrangements at the site. In addition, HDC also facilitated land and sea transport for the participants of the event.
With this 1200 trees, a total of 22700 trees has now been planted at Hulhumalé Phase II.
