The draw ceremony of the largest futsal tournament ever held in Maldives, named as ‘Youth City Futsal Cup 2018’ was conducted tonight in Hulhumale Phase II.

The ceremony commenced with HDC’s Director in Municipal Administration Mr. Ahmed Faathih’s speech. It was followed by a presentation by HDC regarding guidelines of the tournament and concluded by taking draw.

The tournament was initiated in 2017 under Housing Development Corporation’s CSR in the aims of creating a friendly environment and a platform for networking, community building and instill values of sportsmanship amongst the participating youth. Moreover, HDC believes in the importance of creating better opportunities for the youth through such activities and make the government’s vision of Hulhumalé as a Youth City come to life.

This year’s Youth City Futsal Cup 2018 will be the second futsal tournament arranged by HDC. Last year had 108 teams from the Greater Male region and other islands. This year 135 teams have registered to participate, with 120 male teams and 15 female teams. This would be the first time female teams have registered for this tournament.

The tournament, which will officially commence on 20th April 2018, will continue for the following 3 weeks.

The year’s prize money is also higher compared to last year, with champions receiving MVR 100,000 each, runner-up teams with MVR 50,000 each, and the fair play teams receiving MVR 25,000 each.

This event would not be possible without the amazing support by its partners. China Machinery Engineering Corporation is the tournament’s diamond partner whereas China State Construction Engineering Corporation, RedWave, and Ensis has confirmed to be Silver partners.
