Through Housing Development Corporation’s efforts to bring the traditions observed in Maldives to Hulhumalé this Eid A’lha, the corporation organized several festivities for the citizens of Hulhumalé under the theme “Your Eid in Hulhumalé: fostering community spirit – reviving traditions”.
The events started with the special iftar for those observing the fast of day of Arafat which is one of the most important day of the year for Muslims. The iftar took place on 31 August, at Masjid Sheikh Gasim Bin Althaanee (Hulhumalé Bodu Miskiy).
Eid Al’ha started with Eid Prayer at Central Park on yesterday, organized by HDC with Al-Hijrah NGO, followed by Eid Sai – a morning breakfast enjoyed by the community. At the same time, Udhiyah Qurbani went on. The qurbani which was contributed by the public and staff of HDC, was donated as sadaqat to the public and to Fiyavathi Kudakudhinge Hiya.
This was followed by “Eid Maja” a Sagaafee Hingaalun (traditional parade) and Show that took place last evening. Sagaafee Hingaalun started at 4pm from Central Park and went on all the main roads with four stops in prominent locations, including Fiyavathi. The Sagaafi Hinglaaun featured Koadi, Maali, Bodumas and traditional items performed by Raalhugandu Boduberu Group, Rasmatas Dance and items from Ghaazee School and Rehendi School.
Eid Maja Show which was managed by Uber Events and Artists went on at Central Park later in the night, starting from 9pm until 12pm, featuring Mooshan & Friends, Laisha Junaid feat. Voodoo as well as aalhugandu Boduberu Group.
Eid Smiles Children’s Evening organized by Al-Hijrah in partnership with HDC was postponed to the following weekend due to unfavourable weather.
The events were enjoyed by a large number of the citizens and visitors to the city. HDC aims to continue celebrating such days colourfully.
