During the first half of the ceremony, President and First Lady inaugurated the Fehires Park located in Neighbourhood III. After the welcome remarks by Managing Director Mohamed Saiman, President Yameen and Madam Fathmath toured the park, interacting with the public.
During the second half of the ceremony, Minister of Economic Development addressed the public. This was followed by President Yameen’s address to the public. The ceremony ended with a tour of the Fahiveni Community Centre by President Yameen and First Lady.
The Fehires Park which stretches across three blocks, is a development initiated by HDC in line with government’s policy and vision of developing Hulhumalé as a youth city. As this strip is surrounded by social housing units, priority was given to provide facilities that will appeal to all the ages. Hence, instead of creating a single themed park, Fehires consists of children play areas, play courts, leisure components, exercising area with outdoor equipment, communal spaces, green and open spaces.
Meanwhile, Fahiveni Community Centre was developed to cater to the growing population with services and facilities needed by the community. As such, Fahiveni includes badminton courts, cinema, gym, pool area, counseling facilities, cafe’s and communal spaces.
