FTTH Connectivity Ready for Hiyaa Flats

August 17, 2021 : 3:23 pm

As a component under its smart city initiative, HDC has started the installation ONT devices within the apartments of 7000 Hiyaa flat units. ONT is the device that is required in the end-user premises in order to provide FTTH (Fiber-to-the Home) connectivity.

The city wide FTTH network is a strategic infrastructure asset being established at present by HDC to create the fundamental platform required in a smart city ecosystem. FTTH has several advantages to both the community and the service providers.

HDC believes that this readily available FTTH connectivity in the Hiyaa flat units when the units are handed over to the owners, are a necessity for the residents to obtain the internet and other network services quickly especially in this new normal post-pandemic situation. Additionally, the installed ONT devices give the owners/residents of Hiyaa flats greater speed, service range, and will help save a lot of time to provision of internet connectivity rather than having to provide connectivity from different service providers via their own distribution networks.  FTTH has been useful for individuals seeking to keep pace with high-bandwidth Internet applications and home entertainment options such as high definition video on demand.

Service providers too can benefit from the FTTH, as they can provide connections quicky to the customers’ home without having to keep them waiting for too long to install the physical cabling. 7000 being a huge residential project, it will be hassle free for both service providers and customers to obtain internet services via these ONT devices. It will also likely to increase the subscriber rate for service providers with the FTTH and reduce the installation time and costs to service providers significantly.

Additionally, the GPON network and FTTH can minimize the road diggings, and it will be a future-proof scalable network, and a cost-effective model for service providers. With an Open Access Network, the network installation cost can be considerably reduced for service providers. Also, network maintenance costs for service providers can be reduced, thereby giving the service providers more time and resources to focus on their core business.

Hence, HDC believes that is a vital infrastructure component for a society that required to be digitally thriving.
