Due to the lack of burial space at Malé Aa-Saharaa, the government decided to build a new cemetery in Hulhumalé. The contract for this project was signed between HDC and Yuman Enterprises pvt ltd at an event held at HDC building on 4^th November 2015. The new cemetery located in the industrial zone of Hulhumalé was inaugurated by the Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr. Ziyadh on 24^th February 2016. The Managing Director and other senior officials of Housing Development Corporation also participated in ceremony.

The new cemetery can accommodate burials in the greater Malé region for the next 15 years. In addition to a cemetery  a two storey mosque for funeral prayers and mortuary is to be opened soon.

The cemetery can accommodate four funerals at a given time.
