Experience the magic of Maldives at Kudagiri, an 8-hectare island with picturesque views, just 10.8 kilometers from Malé – approximately 20 minutes away, offering an ideal escape from the city’s hustle and bustle.
In a special ceremony at Kudagiri, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih inaugurated the island, attended by 300 members of the public, First Lady Fazna Ahmed, Vice President Faisal Naseem, government officials, and heads of state-owned enterprises. Speaking at the ceremony, President Solih noted the loss of the opportunity to enjoy a picnic with our families on a picnic island with the allocation of Kuda Bandos for an alternative purpose. He emphasized that Kudagiri, now designated for the residents of the Greater Malé region, fulfils the government’s commitment to providing a safe space for Maldivians to enjoy their weekends and holidays.
As a perfect weekend retreat, Kudagiri Picnic Island offers recreational options, including futsal and volleyball courts, water slides, and a children’s park. Accessible and inclusive, the island welcomes everyone, providing services for persons with disabilities (PWD) including free entrance, transportation, dedicated paths, ramps and complimentary wheelchairs on the island.
The island also has a mosque, changing rooms, and retail shops, in addition to safety and security measures. Kudagiri has 13 huts available for booking through the Kudagiri app and website, offering choices between day-use rooms and Ashi (huts) powered by electricity. Visitors can choose between the convenience of a pre-cooked meal at the café or the excitement of cooking up a storm with their loved ones – Kudagiri offers both options for an enjoyable experience.
Moreover, Kudagiri is available for island retreats, providing a versatile venue for corporate events, including formal gatherings, business functions and recreational team-building activities for employees. Bookings are limited to seven people per group, ensuring more individuals can enjoy Kudagiri. Ferry costs are MVR 25 per person, and visitors can arrange their own transfers at an additional cost. The picnic island has free entrance on the weekend, with an entrance fee of MVR 50 on weekdays, and MVR 25 for children under twelve.
